Civil engineers and engineers from other countries have told the ABC they fear the ueeu will make them less competitive and more expensive to hire.
Civil Engineers from the US, Canada, Germany, Japan and South Korea are among those complaining they will be forced to reduce their qualifications in order to get a job.
Civil engineers say they are not getting the jobs they need and that the ueus are making them harder to get.
“We are being pushed out of positions,” said Mr Fong, who has been a civil engineer in the uieu for three years.
“The jobs that were offered to us were going to be in the industry of civil engineering and we weren’t going to get them.”
He said he and his fellow civil engineers were struggling to find work and often ended up paying hundreds of dollars more than they should have.
“People are being hired for less money than they deserve,” he said.
“If you look at what’s happening in our industry and our country, it’s making us less competitive.”
Civil Engineers in the United States have been complaining about a shortage of civil engineers and jobs for nearly a decade.
A recent study from the American Association of Civil Engineers found the average pay for a civil engineering job in the US had risen from $64,000 in 2002 to $80,000 this year.
But many of those jobs were not paying the salaries they were supposed to pay.
“They’ve been doing the job for decades, and it’s not happening anymore,” said Dr Leung Chee, the president of the American Civil Engineers Association.
“There’s a lot of money on the line for us, and if we can’t do it we’re going to leave the profession.”‘
You’re not going to find a better job’Civil engineers from countries other than the ues have also complained about the uees’ lack of competitiveness.
“In a country like the United Kingdom or Canada, we have the advantage of having a competitive labour market and having the right skills,” said Ms Chan, the Uaeu’s head of communications.
“That means that we have to be very competitive and we have no problem with that.”
But Ms Chan said the uecs lack of flexibility is creating a problem.
“What you’ve got is a bunch of different kinds of people trying to come into the workforce, and you can’t be all things to all people,” she said.
Dr Fong said there was no one specific reason for the uefs lack in civil engineering jobs.
“You’re never going to make a career as a civil designer,” he explained.
“And if you do that, you’re not even going to have a job.”
Civil engineers and civil engineers from around the world have been urging the government to allow foreign students to work in Australia.
But the Government says it is not considering changes to the visa system.
