A woman who’s the civil engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation says she gets paid a lot.
She told The Associated Press that her salary ranges from $90,000 to $120,000.
She said she’s on the lookout for opportunities to help the agency better serve the communities it serves.
The job of a civil engineer is often a difficult one for a woman.
A woman needs to be very good at her job and also be able to communicate and coordinate the work with her team, she said.
The department has about 20,000 civil engineers nationwide, and the average wage for a civil engineering job is $85,000, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.
“We have to be careful to keep the salaries the same.
You have to work very, very hard,” said Tania Murguia, a civil engineers vice president.
She was in Austin on a tour to promote her organization’s new campaign video.
She says she’s made some strides.
The civil engineer works with the state’s Transportation Department to provide safe, reliable and environmentally friendly transportation services, as well as with other agencies to make roads, bridges, water mains and sewer systems work.
Murguias group says it’s important to look for ways to improve the state and its roads.
We want to make sure that we’re providing safe, convenient and clean transportation options for everyone,” she said in a statement.
Morguias civil engineering group is not alone in being concerned about wages for women civil engineers.
The American Association of Civil Engineers says it supports equal pay for equal work.
The Equal Pay Act, which was passed by Congress in 1963, mandates that women have equal pay in the private sector, but that states and cities should consider the gender pay gap when making wage and salary decisions.
The legislation also bars the federal government from penalizing states or cities for their pay practices.
The Civil Engineering Division of the U.S. Department of Labor is the agency that sets pay rates for civil engineers, but Murgauias group isn’t sure if it’s the same as the salary she’s making.”
That is an ongoing process,” she told the AP.
