The civil engineering team at the National Solar Research Centre is making the solar farm that could be a $1.5-billion project.
The solar farm could power thousands of homes and provide power for 1,000,000 Canadians.
NSPC’s project manager, Mark Schmitz, said the project is a bit of a mess.

“It would be great if we could get a solar power plant up and running, but the solar panels are too expensive,” he said in an interview.
“There’s no need to make this complicated.
The technology is there.”

It’s a thin sheet of carbon fiber, made from a type of plastic called polycarbonate.
It was developed by a Canadian company called Energia and has a production capacity of 200 megawatts.
The NSpCo project is still in its early stages.
The project manager said that he was excited to have his team working on it, but that it is too complex to make it right.

In a video produced by the Canadian Solar Alliance, the project manager is shown making a solar panel with a carbon fiber grid.
The grid of panels and wiring that lines the solar cell is made from carbon fiber.
The panels are about the same size as a credit card.
A large chunk of the grid will be made from recycled materials, which would be made at the NSpC site.
The company is also planning to use carbon-neutral materials such as steel to make panels.
